Those who are in the know will agree,  sunglasses offer much, much more than merely protecting your priceless vision. What, pray tell, could be more important than protecting quite possibly the most vital and important physical sense you have? Attitude. Yes, you read that right.

Now, we all know rationally, that sunglasses offer invaluable protection against the sun’s harmful eyes that can very well strain, if not, damage your eyesight with prolonged exposure. But this is a feature that everyone knows; it’s intuitive. The slightly less known, and definitely less talked about feature, is the overall aesthetic impact that wearing a pair of stylish shades can have on your overall appearance. It’s so significant that it’s like as if haute-couture designers somehow distilled the attitude of some Audrey-esque or 90’s action movie star and used that for materials, as opposed to the metal or acetate that are actually being used.

Just think about it. It’s a super sunny day, or not, and just as you walked out your door you realize that you’ve forgotten your shades. Which one from amongst us is willing to be a few minutes late to whatever engagements we might have in order to go back and get them. Those who do, know the about this ineffable, intangible value that shades offer, even though others might scoff at its existence.

There are all sorts of sunglasses nowadays, and it’s finding the right pair that really suits you is easier said than done. You have to take into consideration not only size but also your face shape, as certain styles of sunglasses are better matched with certain face shapes, i.e. round, oval, diamond, etc.

Asides from the way that an especially bespoke pair of sunnies can influence your outward appearance, it’s actual function, lest we forget, is to improve your sight on especially bright days. And the relatively recent invention of polarized lenses was and remains to this day, one of the most significant advances in sunglasses technology. That’s why sunglasses with polarized lenses are often a little pricer, but it’s well worth it. You’ll know that lenses are polarized by the subtle and nearly-invisible letter P place on the top corner of one of the lenses. Polarized lenses offer additional protection against powerful glare that may be caused from reflecting water, making it great for enjoying days at the beach, or even when light reflects off of snow, for you all you skiers out there.
